QUICK CUTS – COWBOYS & ALIENS …AND….
Part 1 of 4
(Quick Cuts created by Michael Arruda)

With the recent release of COWBOYS & ALIENS (2011), a movie with a title that includes two seemingly unrelated groups, we here at Cinema Knife Fight decided to get creative.

We asked out panel to come up with some other seemingly unrelated groups, put them together to make a movie title, and then write a brief synopsis of the movie’s (or movies’) plot.

Here’s what they came up with:

*******

From MARK ONSPAUGH:

BLOOD AND OIL – It’s vampires vs. robots in a post-apocalyptic showdown with humans caught in the middle!

KILTS AND CTHULHU – In the 13th Century, William Wallace leads a band of Scots and Brits to battle a monstrosity from beyond space!

PUPPIES AND PREDATORS – adorable talking Golden Retriever puppies take on the vicious alien hunters who have landed in their favorite park.

THE WEREWOLVES OF WUTHERING HEIGHTS – while visiting the Baskervilles, Heathcliff is bitten on the moors… Will his love for Cathy save her at the next full moon?

ANTS ‘N’ PLANTS CAN’T DANCE – In a town where dancing is outlawed, uptight adults and dance-crazy teens must unite to fight giant ants and bloodthirsty Triffids.

SENIORS AND SUCKERS – old people must band together with caregivers and grandchildren to fight off vampires, giant leeches and con men from Altair IV.

A special evening with Mark – we promise it won’t be scary!

It’s true that Mark lives in a special world: Sometimes there are scary things in the dark, but there is also romance, humor, science fiction, mysteries from the great beyond and so much more!  If you know of Cambria resident Mark Onspaugh primarily as a horror writer then this evening at the Fire Dove Gallery in Cambria will introduce you to a more poignant, funny and lyrical side of your favorite local author.  Recently nominated for a prestigious Pushcart Prize, Mark has sold nearly 40 short stories in the last few years and is hoping to bring you a novel very soon.

About Mark:  Mark Onspaugh is a native Californian who grew up on a steady diet of horror, science fiction and DC Comics. He’s a proud member of the Horror Writers Association and the International Thriller Writers Assocation. In addition to the produced film “Kill Katie Malone,” he has several other screenplays in various stages of development, and was also one of the writers of the cult favorite “Flight of the Living Dead.”

While Onspaugh is definitely a fan of the horror genre, he also writes science fiction and comedy.  He polished his comedy writing (and improv skills) at the Groundlings Theater in L.A., where he studied under Lisa Kudrow (“Friends”), Michael McDonald (“Mad TV”) and Heather Morgan (“The Dana Carvey Show”).

New Staff Writer: MARK ONSPAUGH

Posted in 2011, Mark Onspaugh Columns, Remote Outpost, Staff Writers, Television with tags , , , , on June 14, 2011 by knifefighter

We’ve got a brand new knife fighter in the guild. Mark Onspaugh will be writing a television column for our site, called Remote Outpost.

And now, some background:

“As a child, Mark sat too close to the TV, and now needs glasses.  His young brain was irradiated with monster movies, sci-fi and Looney Tunes.  DC comics took care of the rest.  Today, he is the writer of the film “Kill Katie Malone”, a co-writer of the cult fave “Flight of the Living Dead”, and has several scripts in development. His story “The Broken Hand Mirror of Venus” (appearing in the anthology WAR OF THE WORLDS: FRONTLINES, Edited by JW Schnarr) was nominated for a Pushcart Prize this year.  His semi-autobiographical essay, “Evilution: A Short History of Monsters from Black & White to Blood Red” will appear soon in BUTCHER KNIVES AND BODY COUNTS (Vince Liaguno, Editor). He has sold some forty short  stories to such anthologies as  BLOOD LITE (Volumes I, II and III), THE BOOK OF EXODI, DEAD SET, and THE WORLD IS DEAD. He tells people he was raised by wolves, but his parents were nice people who only eviscerated the occasional wayward traveler.  You can visit him at www.markonspaugh.com and on Facebook.”
